Serum Neurofilament Light Chain Reference App

Levels of serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) increase with age and decrease with body mass index (BMI). The application can be used to calculate age- and BMI-adjusted sNfL percentile values and Z score.

These two interchangeable measures quantify the deviation of the entered sNfL value in comparison to control persons of the same age and BMI, based on a reference database of 4532 persons. (Benkert et al., Lancet Neurology 2022; 21: 244–55.)

Measurement of sNfL

Clinicians are welcome to send patients' serum samples to the Multiple Sclerosis Centre at the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland for measurement of NfL levels. Details are available in the order form below:
